The word otae used for it was "admiration”, not necessarily "love”. It was shinpachi who teased her for it by calling it "hatsukoi”/first love and it just caught on with gintoki, kyuubei and kondou.

Like ofc Otae could be lying, or covering up her feelings. I just like the wording she used at the end "from those of us who admire you.”

Makes me think, did she see obi as a love interest or just someone who could run their dojo later?

And i think that’s deeper than simple romantic notions of love coz their dojo is her life.

I really hate how they have all but confirmed that they are going to purposely sideline Alicent in season 2.

This is clearly Condal's idea of making Alicent sympathetic. They are framing Rhaenyra as not just the rightful heir but as the only moral choice for future monarch, so as her opposition the Greens have to be villains.

But because they want Alicent to still be likeable, they can't make her the leader of the Greens. By having her secretly pine for Rhaenyra, while also being mistreated and ignored by the men in her faction, Condal thinks he can make the audience like her more.

But this doesn't really work because they only really manage to make her look whishy washy in her resolve to fight a war in which her children's and grandchildren's lifes are at stake. She ends up being continually victimised and robbed of her agency to ensure that she can never take a decisive and definitive stance against Rhaenyra. Every time she makes a move against her, the writers have her walk it back almost immediately.

S1Ep8 is probably the most eggregious instance of this. She goes from strictly opposing Rhaenyra's and her sons' claims to praising Rhaenyra at the dinner, saying she will make a good queen and back to using Viserys last words to place Aegon on the throne, all in the span of a single episode.

They made Alicent narratively subservient to Rhaenyra, which is a big problem because her express purpose in the narrative is to be Rhaenyra's opposition.

Knowing how the 1st Episode of Season 2 will go done + a couple of other leaks of later episodes + the things they tease about Alicent in interviews is so frustrating, because they are clearly doubling down in this.

I know everyone hates Velma show for obvious and valid reasons but you have to give credit where credit is due! While the writers clearly don’t care about the original source material at all, you have to admit the animators put in a lot of work and heart for such a shit show. Some of those scenes are animated so well done and smooth. Animations is incredibly difficult, I can hardly draw stick figures.

Can you imagine working so hard on something knowing the internet is going to hate it? Like I hope they’re getting paid enough for this 😭

I think Alex Meyers made some amazing points about the animations in his video that I whole heartedly agree with and wish people talked more about! I know the show shits on EVERYTHING we adore about Scooby Doo, but I feel bad for the animators man. Some of this stuff is just downright beautiful and this talent is being literally wasted by people who do not care. It’s gotta suck.

Alex shows a scene of the show that look genuinely visually amazing in his video covering it. Can you imagine if these animators were given good material? Missed opportunity for sure, we NEED more good animated shows with the way streaming services are treating our poor animators.

feel like morgan/lucina is kinda underrated like i get why. but also like… duuude… take it from lucinas perspective: the kid of the fell god that betrayed your father turns against you despite years and years of friendship and most definitely knowing eachother since birth (do you honestly think chrom and robin wouldnt set their kids up on play dates immediately? really??) and despite how much you love them you know they’re beyond saving and you have to leave them behind to succumb to grima when you go back in time to save the world, accepting that youll never see them again! oh shit buts whats this… they show up in the past anyways? having forgotten all the time you spent together, the trouble they caused, everything you meant to them? but its them, its morgan and for the first time in years youre able to see them again happy, carefree, and in complete control! should you feel sad? scared? overjoyed? i dont know! but slap some yuri on that and you got a crazy ass little sideplot all im saying!!!
